Flying Officer Nishtha Vaid was inspired by her grandfather who joined the Indian Air Force in 1952 and flew the Tiger Moth aircraft. He affectionately called her 'soldier', believing she could carry on his legacy. Motivated by his faith in her, Nishtha cleared the Air Force entrance examination in her first attempt.
At Air Force Academy (AFA), despite having no prior athletic experience, she pushed her limits and broke Academy records in the 1.5 km and 5 km races. She also won gold medals in cross country events and was awarded the 'Best All Round Cadet' in Out Door Training in Autumn Term 2024.
Nishtha was also appointed as the Women Cadet Captain (WCC) of the Academy in Spring Term 2025. At the end of the training, she stood first in the overall order of merit in Ground Duty branches and earned the coveted President's Plaque. She also stood first in the Administration branch. After commissioning, she is now ready to take on the role of Air Traffic Controller, and honour her grandfather's memory through her service to the IAF.
